AIR CONDITIONER (WINDOW, HEAT PUMP)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers the requirements for heat pump window air conditioners. They shall provide free delivery of conditioned air to an enclosed space. The air conditioner includes a source of refrigeration for cooling and dehumidification, a source for heating and for circulating and cleaning air.
Salient characteristics.
Window heat pump air conditioners shall be of the following sizes, capacities, electrical characteristics, and energy efficiency ratio (EER) as specified in the requirements table.

The air conditioner shall operate on 60Hz, single phase current.
The air conditioner shall be provided with all mounting devices necessary for their installation.
The circulating fan motor shall have two or more speeds for cooling and heating.
The air conditioner shall control the exhaust of room air or the admittance of outside air or both, but the two operations shall not be simultaneous.
The design shall permit easy removal of the chassis for servicing from inside the building without breaking the weather tight seal.
The maximum dimensions of the air conditioners shall be 19 inches high by 26 inches wide. They shall be designed for double hung window.
The heating capacity shall be as specified in the above table. An adjustable thermostat shall be provided automatically control the temperature from 60 to 80 degrees F (15 to 27 degrees C) within + 4 degrees F (+ 2 degrees C). For electrical safety, the air conditioners shall be in accordance with Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Inc. Standard No. 484. Acceptable evidence that the air conditioners conform to UL Standard 484 shall be the UL label or listing mark.
